What is the one thing in your life that you’d like to do (or do more of) right now? What’s the one thing you can’t stop thinking about?

I’ve been reading, listening and musing on the idea of taking action lately and it’s something that’s so flipping obvious to us, yet not a lot of us actually do it.

Do you want to exercise more? Have a better diet? Write a book? Get a new job? Get a new spouse? Take dance classes? Take crochet classes? Start that small business you’ve always dreamed about? Or maybe start a blog?

Theory is not going to get you there.

Whatever your goal, theory is not going to get you there.

I personally can spend far too much time thinking, planning and researching what it is I want to achieve, but without action, I’m simply not going to do it!

While there’s nothing wrong with being informed and prepared, you can have all the knowledge in the world, but without implementation, nothing is going to change.

If you don’t take action, you simply will not achieve your goals.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”

– Dale Carnegie.

What’s stopping so many of us from living the life we dream of?

While finances, circumstances and free time can all play a part in our ‘reasons’ for inaction, there are often ways around these things if you just dig deep enough and ask the right questions.

There are ways you can make more money. You can carve out more time for your goals (try getting up just 20 mins earlier and starting the day on a high, working on something you’re passionate about).

So, if these ‘reasons’ are really just excuses, what is actually stopping us?

Is fear holding you back?

The more I thought about this, the more I realised how much fear plays a role in our inaction.

Fear of failing. Fear of looking stupid. Fear of judgement and people not liking what we do. Fear of isolating yourself. Fear of the hard work and dedication it’s going to take to get the results…

You get the idea. Let me tell you – there are always going to be people who dislike you, your ideas and what you stand for. But guess what? Their opinion doesn’t matter! For every person who doesn’t like what you do, there will likely be one that adores you and is a raving fan.

Hard work and consistency

Yes, it’s going to take hard work, dedication, early mornings, late nights, consistent action despite ‘not feeling like it’, but guess what? You’re going to do it anyway because by taking action, you are moving in the direction of your dreams and every day will have more spark and excitement to it when you’re living your purpose.

It takes courage to take action. It can push you way out of your comfort zone and make you feel vulnerable and challenged. But you know what’s even more uncomfortable? Regret. Living with that feeling of ‘what if?’ Wondering what could have been if you’d only had the courage to make the leap and take consistent action to live your dreams.

I think many of us have lived in fear long enough.

What are you waiting for? Take a deep breath and dig in. The time to act is now.
